Coming up for the 29th, the new release of Ubuntu (9.10), dubbed Karmic Koala.
I’ve been testing this release for quite a while, and I’m quite content of it, though I still think the Jaunty release had more new and improved features

Well, this was just a FYI :)

Moving out – Pt. II

October 3rd, 2009 Peter van Arkel No comments

As I mentioned before, I was still going to post some pictures of our new apt. We got the keys on thursday, so we finally had the time to make some, so I’ll share :)
There aren’t much pictures, and since I had the blinds closed, some of them are a bit weird with the lighting, but it’ll have to do :)

On another note, in that gallery you can also find other pictures I made. They’re not filtered, so there are some pretty bad ones between the good ones, so be warned ;)

Also available on ipv6 now!

BIT (my employer) was kind enough to supply me with a block of ipv6, more than I, or 100 generations of my family to come, could possibly ever use. Anyway, if you whois 2001:07b8:0620::/48, you’re looking at my allocation :)

With this, I took the liberty of setting up a tertiary nameserver on cthulhu to help ns1 & ns2 with their jobs, as well as providing AAAA records to the world, so a lot of my services and websites I run are now available through ipv6, this blog not excluded (2001:07b8:0620:0080::6) Also, I made a small modification to the sidebar, it now shows which IP you’re coming from, so if you’re connected through ipv6 (With a native connection, sixxs or teredo, for instance), you’ll notice it right away. Of course, if you still don’t use ipv6 (alongside ipv4), try to be a good person and do so :) I’ll devote a post on how to use ipv6 later, but if you just search around on the internet, you’ll probably find more than enough info about it :)

Moving out – Pt. I

August 31st, 2009 Peter van Arkel No comments

Good news, at least for Anne and myself. We found a new apartment, one that’s closer to Anne’s future job (University of Enschede) and is about the same trip for me as it is now. Of course, after living 2,5 years in this small ‘apartment’, we’re very happy to move out to a three-bedroom, 2 floor apartment.

Anyway, we signed the contract today, we’ll begin moving after the first of October, when it’s official.

As things develop, I’ll post more info here and I will also post some pictures when I have them :)

Yay!

New gozerbot plugin

August 21st, 2009 Peter van Arkel No comments

I’ve been playing with the gozerbot on my irc-server for a while, since I noticed it’s awesome capabilities. (We also use it @ work for the irc-server, for about everything) Since I’m also trying to learn python, the language the bot is written in, I took the opportunity of programming a nice little plugin, while also learning a bit of python on the way there.

As you might know, I’m also an avid Dungeons and Dragons player, so I made a plugin which creates a generic, random character, for whenever you can’t choose what to play. Output from the script on irc looks like this:

<@peterva> !chargen-create
<@nigel> Character:
<@nigel> Name : Leantas Echs
<@nigel> Hair : Long, Light Brown
<@nigel> Eyes : Blue
<@nigel> Race : Halfling

If you run a gozerbot, or are just interested in the code of the plugin, you can get it over here:
http://projects.oldones.net/gozerbot-plugins/chargen/chargen.py
(md5sum for version 0.1 = 1c1dd92ec8e749934470b0e0c66c344d)

If you like the bot, or you think something’s wrong with it, then contact me on #talk @ cthulhu.oldones.net:6667 or drop me an email at peterva @ oldones . net
